Skin Benefits of White Tea
Aloe Refreshing Toner with White Tea
One of the favorite skin creams by Forever Living Products (www.foreverliving.com), is the Aloe Nourishing Serum with White Tea. The reason for this is because of the smooth and silky feeling as it is applied to the skin. What our skin feels when this product is applied is not only due to the healing properties of aloe vera, but also due to the nourishing and antioxidant properties of white tea. The great feeling you experience when this product is applied has now been verified and explained by science.
Research in 2009 led by Dr. Thring from Kingston University indicates potential advantages of white tea as a skin rejuvenation agent. In the study, the researchers looked at two key effects that help slow down skin aging: antioxidant activity and the ability to inhibit the skin-degrading enzymes. The researchers found that white tea showed the greatest level of activity both as an anti-oxidant and as an inhibitor of skin damaging enzymes.
These researchers also found that by topically applying white tea extract directly to the skin, damaged skin cells were restored and any DNA damage due to sunlight exposure was significantly reduced. In particular, white tea can be included in a variety of topical skin formulas, such as serums and toners.
White tea is made of young tea leaves and buds, steamed immediately after harvest. This type of low processing required for white tea, results in the highest catechin content and a very high concentration of beneficial flavonols.
Elma Baron, M.D., director of the Skin Study Center at Case Western Reserve University says that the active compounds in white tea extract are capable of strengthening the skin’s immune system by preventing oxidation damage. The skin’s immune function was restored and the harm caused by exposure to sunlight was reduced. White tea extract may also be able to delay the aging process through its high antioxidant concentration and ability to protect the skin from oxidation.
I recommend using the Aloe Nourishing Serum with White Tea, and/or the Aloe Refreshing Toner with White Tea, for both my male and female patients. The men can use these products as a soothing aftershave, and the women can use them as part of their daily moisturizing regimen.
